Plastic Surgery…for a CAT?!
We learn new things every day. And I discovered that vets give plastic/cosmetic surgery to animals too! Somewhat cheaper than humans of course.
Until the swelling in his eye goes down, Mouse is slated for plastic surgery to fix his lower eyelid (see picture, right eye). He is diagnosed to have Entropion, which can be an inherited condition in which the lower eyelid turns inward. In turn it causes irritation to the cat’s eye. Below is a complete explanation:
Entropion is a hereditary condition in which the eyelids roll inward which causes the eyelashes to contact the surface of the eye. This condition usually involves both eyes and is quite painful. In addition to conjunctivitis, partial or complete loss of vision can result if left untreated. Squinting and tearing are the most common signs. Persians and Himalayans seem to be at increased risk. Surgical correction involves removal of a narrow strip of skin and muscle from the eyelid. Stitches are then used to avert the eyelid so that it lies in a normal position.
So my advice to all cat owners, better have your cat checked for this condition! It’s common in Himalayan & Burmese breeds. I’m just surprised my cat turned out to be one of them.
I still insist getting him a piratical eye patch with a picture of a hung dog on it.
YaaaR! Hopefully he’ll be home by this weekend, with BOTH eyes.

Your cat looks a little elongated . . . oh wait, that was the photo?? Poor, sweet little baby, and what a lucky Mouse, to have a mama and papa who will give him that surgery. Imagine how awful it must be to go through life with that constant irritation?
